Join myself Lucy Clayton and fellow watercolour artist Elaine Gill as we open up the garden studio doors this summer for South East Open Studios 2023.
We will both be working on pieces throughout Open Studios and it’s a great opportunity to take a look behind the scenes and see some of the processes and inspiration that we use to develop and create our paintings.

Lucy Clayton
Many of the subjects I paint are connected to personal experiences and I am particularly interested in how our senses can create strong memories through taste, texture, and smell.
I often incorporate a form of mono printing called the blotted line technique in my paintings and more recently I am exploring repeat block printed patterns to incorporate in still life studies. I enjoy the process of these techniques and they produce interesting and unexpected marks to my work.
Drawing is an essential part of my practice as it allows me time to investigate and understand a subject. I am a member of The Society of Graphic Fine Art and exhibit regularly with them.

We are lucky to be situated opposite the sculptor Sandra Camargo who will be taking part in South East Open Studios during the second and third weeks.
Sandra creates each of her sculptures using traditional hand carving techniques and believes “every stone has a story to tell and sculpting is a process of finding what it is”
