Delighted to have three paintings in the Society of Graphic Fine Art’s 101st Annual Open Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
The exhibition showcases original pieces of art with the focus on excellence in drawing and draughtsmanship by hand. It its always wonderful to see how artists from use drawing in their work to explore ideas using a diversity of media including pencil, printmaking, painting and embroidery.

The wisteria that grows in my garden was a challenge and a joy to paint. Its fleeting blooms only last for a short period and every May I look forward to sitting underneath it, to listen to the bees and enjoy its beautiful scent.
Raspberry Palaver is a continuation of exploring food in translucent containers. I like the way the ridges of the dessert dish distort the gently squashed raspberries. The title was inspired by a funny moment on holiday when I over heard a young girl asking for an ice cream ‘If they don’t have strawberry I’ll have raspberry palaver’.
Kippers for Tea was inspired by some Craster kippers I came across in a local shop. The colours and texture reminded me of peat bog mummies and battered metal. They were interesting to paint as I liked the contrast of the fish’s rich colours and the delicate tones of the bag. The title comes from a song my dad used to sing while cooking kippers.
